To keep your account and payments safe and secure, we need all our customers to verify their identities on their CardUp accounts.
Why do I need to verify my identity?
In line with the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Guidelines issued by the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, all users need to be verified according to the latest verification requirements. This helps us keep your account and payments secure.
CardUp's verification processes are in accordance with the CED regulations and the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (the "PDPO").
If I do not verify my identity, will my account be deactivated?
No, your account will not be deactivated. However, you will not be able to make or collect payments on CardUp if you do not verify your identity.
How do I verify my identity?
- Log in to your CardUp account
- Verify your details via one of the following methods:
- Passport verification
- Hong Kong Identity card (HKID) verification
- Upload your document.
- If you choose to submit your HKID:
- Upload the front and back of your document separately.

If you select 'Continue on phone':

You will be given a secure QR code link.

Scan the QR code on your phone to be directed to a page where you will take a photo of the front and back of your document.

- If you choose to submit your HKID:
- Upload your selfie. Take a simple self-portrait for us to verify your identity.
- Tips: Face forward and make sure your eyes are clearly visible. If you wear glasses, kindly remove them.
- And...you're done verifying! Once completed, your browser will refresh and reflect your current status — that your document and selfies are both uploaded!
- (if necessary) Complete your remaining profile. You will also be required to verify your address (as required by HKCED). You can upload your proof of address by clicking on the "Upload document" as shown below:
Once done, you may proceed to set up a payment with us. We will review your proof of address once you have set up your first payment. It will take no longer than 1 business day for your profile and payment to be verified.
